Living Streets – European Mobility Week 2010

Two out of three Europeans live in an urban environment. Mobility Week is an initiative to promote sustainable modes of travel and improvement of the urban environment.
Living Streets is a day long programme of events being organised by Dublin City Council on South William Street, Drury Street, Fade Street, Castle Market and Coppinger Row on Wednesday 22nd September as part of Mobility Week. Roads will be closed to motorised vehicles and there will be free live music and comedy, an exhibition of cargo bikes and an outdoor evening movie.
Music will be provided by Rory Faithfield, the Niall Toner Band and the Hot Club of Dublin on the main stage on Drury Street. Live comedy acts will include Andrew Stanley, Damien Clark, Eric Lalor and Fred Cooke. When it gets dark we will have a screening of the animated masterpiece ‘Belleville Rendezvous’ on Dury Street. This projection will be pedal powered so we will need volunteers from the audience to keep the show going.
It is going to be a great day so walk, cycle, get the bus or hop on a LUAS and come and enjoy one of the most vibrant parts of Dublin City – car free for a day.

- September 21, 2010 at 9:42 pmI notice every Year on Car Free Day it is all just a token Effort of just a couple of Streets being closed to Traffic. You should close the entire City to Traffic Traditionally between the two Canals ,do it right.
Why not a Car Free Day every Sunday, give the City some Breathing Space from all the Traffic Fumes instead of Pandering to the Petrol Head’s.
Tourists come to see the City and not Cars. People like to go Shopping without constantly looking over their Shoulders for Cars.
You should do something to stop all the Cars driving and Parking on those Cycling Lanes, get the Cops to Ticket the Motorists for Parking on them.
